In the previous part-1, about vMware Horizon from management view related with “When vMware Horizon solution should be used, which organizations should use this solution and which benefits can we get” had already been shared. Now, I would like to continue for Technical view in this part-2.
➡️In this part, I will not share in details. This is intended to understand easily and to know as an overview. I will share about Horizon Components, the main tasks of these components, their connections and how work with protocols.
➡️What are VMware Horizon Components?
🔹To build VMware Horizon, there needs to have VMware Infrastructure. In VMware Horizon, vCenter Server is existed as one of the essential components. vCenter Server manages other server components.
🔹 Another essential component is Connection Server.
What are the tasks of Connection Servers?
The main task of connection server is to manage the horizon environment and client connection. It is also work as Broker for client connection.
🔹 Next one is Composer Server. So, what are the main tasks?
Composer Server can clone the parent desktop to get multiple virtual desktops VM. The cloning of virtual desktops can’t work unless the Composer Server.
🔹 Another essential one is Parent Master VM. By taking the snapshot on the master VM, the multiple virtual desktops can be cloned from composer server. So, the required specifications, the applications and other initial configurations are needed to prepare on this Parent VM as first.
🔹 To use the virtualized desktops and applications from users, the identification is required so Microsoft Activity Directory is needed to connect with Horizon infrastructure. The users and OUs can create at AD and entitle to virtual desktops.
🔹 As it is called the desktop and application virtualization technique, it’s needed to virtualize the application. The RDSH server is needed as essential for application virtualization. The virtualized applications are existed in RDSH server farm and applications from Farm can publish to the respective user.
🔹 Security Server and Identity Manager Server can be added as additional components.
🔹 If there is access from external or DMZ zone or something like that, it’s needed to use and Security Server or Access Point.
🔹 If Single Sign-on for the virtualized applications and desktops is required, Identity Manager Server is needed to connect with VMware Horizon Environment. VMware Horizon provide the Blast Extreme protocol to access.
🔹 VMware Horizon can use with Zero Client/ Thin Client devices. These devices are so cheap and cost-saving. For these zero-client use case, PCoIP protocol can be provided by VMware Horizon.
➡️Connection Server is also called as Horizon View Manager. To create virtual desktop and virtual application, Horizon View Manager is needed to create as first. From this View Manager, desktop and application can monitor as checking log in/ log out session and control and manage.
